Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: (1) multiple exposures: children who had more than 3 general anesthesia before the age of 3 for elective surgery; American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Physical Status 1-2; 36 weeks gestational age or older at birth; born and raised in Guangdong, China; (2) Control: age and gender-matched children with no anesthesia exposure; 36 weeks gestational age or older at birth; born and raised in Guangdong, China. Use of age and sex-matched controls born in the relatively same area is an effective way to minimize confounding by variables that are important but difficult to measure, such as gender and growing environments, all factors affecting gut microbiota.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Children who had any medical history of intestinal diseases; Children who got the history of mental illness; oral takes of antibiotics within 3 months.
