Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: children with signs and symptoms of tonsillitis of both sexes, aged between 2 to 12 years were recruited. The children were diagnosed of tonsillitis by the presence of a sore throat and / or a swollen, hyperemic or suppurated tonsil and/or visible secretions or erythema of tonsil, and / or with fever.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1) history of hypersensitivity to macrolides or beta-lactams; 2) patients with a medication history of corticoids or montelukast; 3) patients had already received antibiotic treatment up to 7 days before enrollment; 4) patients have undergone tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy or a previous reduction of tonsils; 5) patients had a history of rheumatic fever, or had a peritonsillar abscess; 6) patients with potential viral infection or other underlying severe diseases.
