High-intensity interval exercise group:HIIE x 3 times/week
Vigorous-intensity continuous exercise group:VICE x 3 times/week
Moderate-intensity continuous exercise group:MICE x 3 times/week

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: We will recruit sixty healthy but physically inactive men aged 40-59 years through advertisements in the university, partner institutions, community centers, and online. Participants will be considered as physically inactive if they report less than 150 min of moderate or 75 min of vigorous PA per week, as assessed by the International Physical Activity Questionnaire (Craig et al. 2003). All participants can fluently write, read and understand English (so only English information sheet and consent form are provided)

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria include severe high blood pressure (=180/100mmHg), myocardial infraction, uncompensated heart failure, or unstable angina pectoris over the previous four weeks, as suggested by the current exercise prescription guidelines (ACSM, 2013). Individuals who are on medication for chronic diseases will also be excluded.
