Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. AIS girls between the ages of 11-18 with newly or retrospectively diagnosed AIS with different curve severity will be recruited; 2. Cobb angle of major curve will be measured from standard standing posterior-anterior radiography of the whole spine; 3. Age-matched nnon-AIS subjects who require orthopaedic bone related reconstructive surgery will be recruited.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: AIS subjects with the following features are excluded: (1) congenital scoliosis; (2) neuromuscular scoliosis; (3) scoliosis of metabolic etiology; (4) scoliosis with skeletal dysplasia, or (5) scoliosis with known endocrine and connective tissue abnormalities. For non-AIS subjects, subjects with any known bone metabolic disease, scoliosis, or diseases that could affect the bone metabolism will be excluded.
