Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: diagnosed within the past 12 months with type 2 diabetes according to 1999 WHO criteria; not received oral anti-diabetic drugs or insulin therapy; HbA1c between 7.5% and 10.5%; fasting plasma glucose [FPG]=11.1 mmol/L; BMI between 19 and 30 kg/m2; Age=60 years

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Acute diabetic complications;severe chronic diabetic complications; severe abnormal liver and kidney function; severe gastrointestinal disease; severe cardiac disease; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; uncontrolled hypertension (systolic pressure>160mmHg or diastolic pressure>100 mmHg); previous bariatric surgery, a history of bulimia, substance abuse, or the use of any weight loss medications; pregnant women, ready to deliver or lactating, or childbearing women. diagnosed as type 2 diabetes more than 12 months.
