Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. eyes with primary open angle glaucoma, with an open iridocorneal angle, glaucomatous optic disc changes such as localized or diffuse rim thinning and RNFL defects, and glaucomatous VFDs corresponding to the glaucomatous structural changes. Glaucomatous VFD was defined by the presence of at least 3 contiguous test points within the same hemifield on the pattern deviation plotatP<5%,withatleast1ofthesepointsatP<1%, which was confirmed by 2 consecutive reliable tests (fixation loss rate, <_ 20%; false-positive and false-negative error rates, <_15%); 2. at least 1 annual visual field (VF) test.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) history of ocular injury or intraocular diseases that may affect the VF, such as vascular occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, and hypertensive retinopathy, eye trauma; (2) congenital optic disc abnormalities that may affect optic nerve head structure or VF, including optic disc hypoplasia (eg, superior segmental optic nerve hypoplasia) that may present VFD similar to glaucoma15; (3) extremely high myopia (axial length >_ 28.5 mm or SE 15] were obtained at fewer than 60 of the 65 serial scans and that did not allow clear delineation of the anterior border of the entire LC were excluded11,16); (5) the eyes that had a best-corrected visual acuity worse than 20/30, in order to minimize the effect of media opacity such as cataract (eyes with cataract surgery before the baseline ex- amination were not excluded, but those that developed cataract and impaired vision during the study period were excluded); (6) mean deviation (MD) worse than "20.0 dB at the initial VF test, because of the difficulty in evaluating progression in such eyes.
