Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) patients with single-level disc herniation and characteristic radiating pain in the leg; (2) preoperative MRI showing massive disc herniation affecting more than 50% of the vertebral canal diameter; (3) patients who did not respond to more than 6 months of routine conservative treatment, as evidenced by a lack of symptom improvement.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) patients with tumors or fractures in the vertebral body and vertebral body attachments; (2) patients with infection of the skin and soft tissues in the operative field or intervertebral space; (3) patients who previously underwent surgery on the same segments; (4) patients with severe heart and lung dysfunction who could not tolerate the procedure.
