Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: aged more than 65 years, exhibiting AHN located at the unilateral thoracolumbar section for less than 3 months, and numeric rating scale (NRS) pain score > 3 on a scale of 0–10.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Inability to understand Mandarin, inability to properly describe pain to investigators (e.g., language barrier and neuropsychiatric disorder), relevant drug allergy, pre-existing neuralgia, history of chronic pain, alcohol or drug abuse, and contraindications to peripheral nerve block (e.g., allergy to local anesthetics, coagulopathy, and local or systemic infection).
