Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. The diagnosis accords with the diagnostic criteria of liver failure in the Chinese Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Liver Failure in 2012; 2. Aged between 18 and 70 years old.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Maternal and lactating patients; 2. Patients with a history of thyroid dysfunction, neoplasia, diabetes mellitus, or other diseases which can potentially effect on energy metabolism; 3. Hospital stay is less than five days; 4. Inability to persist or unwillingness to participate in the study.
