Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Sign informed consent; 2. NAFLD patients were selected for treatment with bariatric surgery. Healthy lean volunteers who were undergoing select abdominal surgeries, such as herniotomy or cholecystectomy; 3. Histopathologic diagnoses of NAFLD were made in accordance with characteristic histological features.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Samples with necroinflammation and fibrosis were excluded. None of the patients tested positive for infection with hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) or human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Patients with other causes of chronic liver disease or patients receiving potentially hepatotoxic drugs were excluded. In addition, the included patients consumed less than 20 g of alcohol per day.
