Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Type 2 diabetes, aged 20-75 year old, Han ethnicity and Uygur ethnicity, course of disease were from 6 months to 30 year, for at least 3 months on stable doses of either OADs, insulin (basal, premix, multiple dose insulin) or OAD plus insulin combinations; HbA1c =5.5%; estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) =60 mL/min/1.73 m2 (Modification of Diet in Renal Disease formula); and normal hemoglobin level.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. Newly diagnosed type 2 diabetes of less than 6 months; 2. Type 2 diabetes on lifestyle intervention only; 3. Presence of comorbidities chronic liver disease, chronic kidney disease, estimated glomerular filtration rate <60 mL/ min/1.73 m2, serious cardiac disease with New York Heart Association class III/IV; 4. Malignancy and receiving steroid therapy; 5. Type 2 diabetes with anemia, hemoglobinopathies, blood transfusion within 3 months before and after enrollment, receiving erythropoietin therapy); 6. Type 2 diabetes patients who were pregnant, lactating or planning for pregnancy.
