Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Children aged 2–7 years, scheduled to undergo ophthalmic surgery, and American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status classification I.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with conditions that may cause spontaneous cough, e.g., an abnormal airway, reactive airway disease, or an upper respiratory tract infection in the previous 3 weeks, were excluded from the study, as were patients with abnormal cognitive development, developmental delay, or a known history of allergy to any of the drugs used in our anesthetic protocol.
