Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Consecutive children with American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status I to II, aged 2 to 7 years, who underwent elective vitreoretinalsurgery

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: parent unwillingness to give consent; a history of upper airway infection less than 4 weeks before the surgery; allergy to local anesthetics, dexmedetomidine, and opioids; presence of eye tumors or infections; or blindness in the eye not being operated on.
