Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) biopsy-proven primary rectal adenocarcinoma; 2) locally advanced disease determined by pretreatment MRI (=T3, and/or positive nodal status, no distant metastasis ); 3) received complete neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and no treatment has been done before; 4) TME surgery was performed after completion of neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy; 5) pre- and posttreatment ultrasound data obtained using the same three-dimensional transrectal ultrasound system The upper edge of the lesion can be explored completely by ultrasound probe; 6) Patients should understand and be willing to sign an informed consent form.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) unable to undergo three-dimensional transrectal ultrasound because of intestinal stenosis and claustrophobia; 2) not completing neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy; 3) not undergoing surgery at our hospital, or refused surgery after neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy; 4) incomplete or inferior image data of three-dimensional transrectal ultrasound pre- and post-neoadjuvant therapy.
