Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. first episode of unilateral stroke for more than one month; 2. no progression of aggravated nervous system symptoms for more than 48 h; 3. a score of less than 24 points on the Hamilton Depression Scale; 4. a score of 25 or higher on the Kinesthetic and Visual Imagery Questionnaire; 5. ability to understand and follow simple verbal instructions and a minimal score of 24 points on the Folstein Mini-Mental State Examination; 6. a stage of I-IV in motor function of hemiplegic lower limb on the Brunnstrom stage classification; 7. aged 18 to 75 years; 8. not participating in any experimental rehabilitation or drug studies.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: (1) Cerebellum or Brain stem hemorrhage (or infarction); (2) dysphasia or aphasia; (3) serious dysfunction of important organs like heart, lung, liver and kidney; (4) serious injury or disease in the lower extremity bone, joint or peripheral nerve; (5) deep venous thrombus of lower extremity.
