Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients were included in the study if they had an RC tear associated with an associated LHB tendinopathy diagnosed on clinical grounds and observed on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), with symptoms for at least 6 months that were unresponsive to non-operative management (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, physical therapy, rest and 1 local corticosteroid injection). Only patients between 55 and 65 years of age were considered to limit the age difference between the participants. Moreover, patients had no history of tobacco use or metabolic and endocrine disorders such as diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, obesity (body mass index >30 kg/m2), and thyroid diseases to minimize the role of these conditions on the results and to have similar baseline characteristics(11-13). Only patients with small (5 cm) RC tears were excluded.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients were excluded if they had episodes of shoulder instability or radiographic signs of a fracture of the glenoid or the greater or lesser tuberosity, or radiographic signs of shoulder osteoarthritis. Patients were also excluded from the study if they had inflammatory joint disease, prior surgery on the affected shoulder, or inability to complete questionnaires because of a language problem or cognitive disorder. Patients were also excluded in the presence of a subscapularis tear and in case of advanced rotator cuff muscles degeneration = III according to Goutalliers classification(14)
