Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: The inclusion criteria were the following: patients with unilateral symptomatic carotid stenosis (=70% according to the ECST study [12]) and a CCA diameter greater than 30% of the ICA diameter or 2 millimeters; stenosis located around the carotid bifurcation; patient life expectancy of greater than two years and age less than 80 years; and doctor experience of more than 200 procedures; otherwise, there were no other procedure contraindications.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criteria were as follows: patients with a CCA diameter greater than 50% of the ICA diameter; bilateral carotid severe stenosis (>70%); unilateral carotid occlusion or intracranial artery stenosis of more than 70%; coronary artery disease (CAD) with coronary artery stenosis of greater than 75%; uncontrolled hypertension and systolic pressure greater than 160 mmHg despite medical therapy; and any hemorrhagic disease within six months. Moreover, cases involving cardioembolic source stroke, active cancer and patient refusal were also excluded.
