Interventions
The observation group:topically administrated with 0.1% acyclovir (ACV) combined with dexamethasone (reduced from 0.06% to 0.03%) eyedrops with the stepladder approach
The control group:topically administered with 0.1% ACV eyedrops and 0.3% tobramycin combined with 0.1% dexamethasone eyedrops

Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients with at least three month history of HSK who were diagnosed with recurrent HSK.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients with severe dry eye, who had intraocular surgery during treatment, had other types of keratitis, high ocular pressure, diabetic retinopathy, hypertension, etc., and systemic diseases were excluded from this study.
