Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The patients were initially diagnosed as type 2 diabetes according to World Health Organization criteria, aged 18-40 years, body mass index (BMI )of 25-35kg/m2, HbA1c 6.5 ~ 9%, without therapy for diabetes including diet and exercise, antidiabetes agents before the study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Type 1 diabetes, recent acute complications including diabetic ketoacidosis and hyperglycaemic hyperosmolar coma, acute infection, impaired liver function, impaired renal function (creatinine clearance < 45 ml/min), women in pregnancy or lactation, smoker.
