Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: All participants had been diagnosed as being in UWS based on repeated behavioural evaluations. The patients had no severe cerebral atrophy and injury at left frontal area upon MRI scans, and had no epileptic history or EEG epileptiform activity, pacemakers, aneurysm clips, neurostimulators or brain/ subdural electrodes. All the patients received routine medication and rehabilitation courses but had no consciousness improvement at least two weeks. The patients have not taken any drugs such as Zolpidem, Modafinil, Midazolam and Baclofen. And they were free of any acute comorbidity (e.g. acute pneumonia) at least two weeks before this study.
