65 Years to 74 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. patients diagnosed with end-stage knee OA according to the diagnosis criteria [20]; 2. aged from 65 to 74 years old and scheduled for primary unilateral TKA surgery; 3. no history of significant cardiovascular, pulmonary, metabolic, musculoskeletal or other chronic diseases; 4. fully informed consent about the program; 5. can assign a partner to oversee the entire exercise process to ensure safety and live in community with a normally active life style.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. a history of knee infection, lesion involved bilateral knee or any intra-articular hyaluronic acid injections in the 6 months prior to assessment; 2. serious medical conditions that limit his/her ability to safely participate in either the TCC or physical therapy programs (e.g., admission to an extended care facility, pacemaker or defibrillator); 3. inability to walk at least 150 m in 6 minutes due to some serious disease (e.g., epilepsy, diminished mental capabilities); 4. prior experience with TCC or exercised regularly with other similar types of complementary and alternative medicine such as Qi Gong or yoga; 5. any reason why the whole research plan cannot be finished (e.g., not Chinese-speaking or intend to move out of the region ).
