Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Consecutive adults (more than 18 yr old) scheduled for elective cardiac surgery (coronary artery bypass grafting, valvular replacement, or both); written informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Preexisting advanced chronic kidney disease; history of nephrectomy or renal transplantation; unable to measure urinary sulfated glycosaminoglycans due to any reason; acute kidney injury before surgery.
