Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. diagnosis of first episode schizophrenia based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders fourth version (DSM-IV) criteria and confirmed using the Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-IV (SCID) 2. has never been on antipsychotic medication before; 3. the PANSS total score >70 points 4. aged between 18 and 60; 5. no allergy to baicalin; 6. the weight increased by more than 7% after risperidone or olanzapine treatment compared with the baseline; 7. informed consent of patients and their families.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. diagnoses of autoimmune diseases, heartdiseases, hepatobiliary and gastrointestinal diseases, blood diseases, diabetes neurological diseases, or psychiatric diseases other than first episode schizophrenia; 2. a history of allergy and hormone therapy, and have received immunotherapy in the past month; 3. a history of using any antibiotic or anti-inflammatory agent in the past month; 4. pregnant or lactating women; 5. do not agree to participate in the study.
