Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. patients aged 18 years or older; 2. had clinical symptoms of acute unilateral middle-cerebral-artery infarction with an onset of symptoms less than 72 hours before the treatment of ICU; 3. the ischemic infarction of at least two thirds of the middle-cerebral-artery territory, including the basal ganglia, on brain imaging; 4. the scores are higher than 14 (in patients with an infarction in the nondominant hemisphere) or higher than 19 (in patients with an infarction in the dominant hemisphere) with reduced levels of consciousness; 5. signed the informed consent.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. With the cerebellum and brain stem or bilateral cerebral hemisphere multiple infarction patients; 2. patients treated with antiepileptic drugs or narcotics, in 24 hours before the EEG monitoring; 3. a preexisting score of more than 1 on the modified Rankin scale; 4. a preexisting severe disease like heart failure that can influence the prognosis of patients; 5. There are serious artifact so that the EEG cannot be interpreted; 6. Estimated death within 48 h; 7. hemorrhages or other associated brain lesions; 8. heart arrest; 9. the absence of pupillary reflexes.
