Interventions

Metformin+Insulin:Patients are prescribed with 500-850mg metformin twice daily with insulin
Insulin alone:Patients will continue insulin therapy

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) diabetes diagnosed according to the report of the World Health Organization in 1999 at age = 30 years; 2) positive for GADA; 3) insulin independent within the first 6 months after the diagnosis of diabetes; 4) Informed consent obtained

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) history of any malignancy or other severe diseases; 2) female patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding before or during the three-year follow-up; 3) poor compliance or refusal to participate.
