Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Participants with a primary diagnosis of stable OHS visiting our sleep respiratory laboratory during January 2016 to June 2017, aged 20-70 years, were consecutively recruited.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) other causes of chronic respiratory failure such as COPD hypothyroidism, chest wall abnormalities and neuromuscular diseases; 2) acute respiratory acidosis (aggravated in past two weeks RR>30 times a minute PH<7.35) 3) tracheal intubation during the last three months; 4) any other form of ventilatory support had been received before; 5) other organ dysfunction or failure, such as severe infection, hemodynamics, uncontrolled cardiac failure, severe arrhythmia, unstable angina pectoris, gastrointestinal perforation or bleeding; 6) disorders of dysphoria, delirium or unconsciousness, or psychophysical inability to coordinate or protect airway or provide written informed consent; 7) too much or viscous airway secretion; 8) had received surgery or suffered in face, neck, esophagus and stomach recently; 9) pneumothorax without drainage; 10)upper airway obstruction.
