Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients older than 18 years undergoing major surgical procedures that require continuous blood pressure monitoring or frequent arterial blood gas analysis and sampling as determined by the attending anesthesiologist during the operation.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients with any one of the followings: 1. peripheral vascular diseases (arterial atherosclerosis, primary or secondary vasculitis,angioma, Raynaud's disease); 2. coagulopathy (INR=1.5 or platelet count =10*10^9/L); 3. abnormal Allen test or radial artery occlusion; 4. any infection, trauma or scars at the insertion site.
