Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1) 12-20 years old; 2) being treated with insulin for at least one year; 3) with a recent HbA1c between 7.0% and 14% (normal, 4.0%-6.2%), the upper HbA1c limit was set to avoid bias from potential psychological maladjustment associated with extremely poor metabolic control; 4) being treated by intensive insulin therapy (more than two injections per day or insulin pump); and 5) able to read and speak in Mandarin Chinese.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1) T2D; 2) suffering from serious complications associated with diabetes, or untreated Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder that would interfere with participation; 3) other documented serious medical or psychiatric conditions (as defined by a diagnosis recorded in the patients medical records); and 4) other significant chronic health problems, including thyroid disease, asthma, and hypertension that may occur in adolescents with T1D.
