Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Aged 3 to 36 months; 2. low cardiac output and hypovolemia indicated by the following signs: (1) hypotension (age adjusted judgement by systolic pressure: 3-6 months 10 mmHg or 0.5 L min-1 m2 in 5 mins); (2) A decrease of central venous pressure or left atrial pressure >3 mmHg in 5 mins; (3) The difference between dicrotic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure was more than 10 mmHg.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Aortic disease (e.g., aortic valve regurgitation and aortic coarctation), severe ventricular dysfunction (left ventricular ejection fraction <50%), major aortopulmonary collateral arteries, pulmonary atresia, maximum slope of upstroke (dp/dtmax, as a indicator of myocardial contractility) <0.8 mmHg/ms, changing inotropics dose, malignant arrhythmia, waveform signal artifacts.
