Interventions

Real acupuncture group (RA) :Real acupuncture for 6 weeks
Sham acupuncture group (SA):Sham acupuncture for 6 weeks
Placebo pill:Placebo 1 pill twice everyday, po for 6 weeks
Waitlist group:Symptomatic treatment for 6 weeks

18 Years to 80 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Pathologically diagnosed with cancer, TNM stage III or IV; 2. ESAS fatigue score=4 within the past 24 hours; 3. Age 18~80 years old; 4. ECOG score= 3; 5. Not planning to change the current anti-cancer therapy or no anti-cancer therapy in the next 6 weeks; 6. Can understand the study well, with the written informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. With uncontrolled pain, defined as Morphine equivalent dose increase of more than 30% in the past 2 weeks; 2. Concurrent use of steroids, NSAIDs or salicylic acids; 3. Needle phobia; 4. Platelet count <50*10^9/L; 5. Hemoglobin <90g/L; 6. PT or APTT = 1.5* ULN (Upper Limit of Normal); 7. Currently with a diagnosis of hypothyroidism or psychiatric disorder (e.g., severe depression, manic depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, or schizophrenia); 8. Radiotherapy within past 3 months; 9. Neutrophile<1*10^9/L; 10. Active treatment for anemia with erythropoietin or blood transfusions within past 4 weeks; 11. Active infection; 12. Acupuncture treatment within the previous 6 weeks.
