Age
18 Years to 80 Years

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1) Liver cirrhosis confirmed by liver biopsy or combined with clinical, laboratory tests, imaging studies; 2) aged =18 years; 3) diagnosed as hepatic encephalopathy during the first admission or hospitalization.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1) acute and subacute hepatic failure without underlying cirrhosis; 2) active malignancies (except for hepatocellular carcinoma diagnosed within Milan criteria) or previous malignancies with a negative follow-up of less than 5 years; 3) moderate to severe chronic Heart failure (NYHA=2); 4) severe COPD (GOLD=2); 5) severe mental illness; 6) refusal to provide written informed consent.
