Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients diagnosed with sepsis or multiple organ dysfunction syndrome and require mechanical ventilation therapy. In addition, the intervention with electric-acupuncture should start within 48 hours after mechanical ventilation, and patients included should older than 18 years old, voluntarily join the trial, and agree to sign an informed consent certificate.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients were excluded from the study if they were in any of the following situations: diagnosed with neuromuscular disease or cerebrovascular accident; pregnant patient; had temporary and permanent pacemaker; need to use neuromuscular blocking agents; inactivity for more than 5 days before ICU admission.
