Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Participants will be included if they fulfilled the following criteria: (1) a confirmed diagnosis of acute stiff neck pain in accordance with the diagnostic criteria; (2) participants who are 18 to 65 years old (both males and female patients are included); (3) no acupuncture therapy or other relative treatment within the last 3 days prior to study entry; and (4) informed consent document has been signed.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients with any of the following conditions will be excluded: (1) history of thoracic outlet syndrome, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel syndrome, periarthritis of shoulder, neck and back myofascitis, biceps tendon sheath inflammation, circular muscle syndrome, supraspinatus tendinitis, rheumatism pronator; (2) neck trauma, cervical fracture or cervical surgery, or congenital spinal abnormality, or a diagnosis of systemic disease of the bones or joints of neck; (3) neck pain result from vertebral body or spinal canal cancer, tuberculosis; (4) neck pain with ulcers on the neck region; (5) neck pain caused by acute cervical spondylosis; (6) complications of severe systematic diseases such as cardiocerebrovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, kidney disease, or digestive system disease; (7) rejection or fear of acupuncture therapy; use of any type of acupuncture within the 3 days prior to study entry; and (8) fail to accept the completion of clinical treatment.
