Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: The inclusion criteria for clients include: 1. Aged 18-45 years; 2. Have been diagnosed as schizophrenia according to the DSM-IV; 3. Have been diagnosed with schizophrenia for 15 years or less; 4. Have significant functional impairments as demonstrated by at least one of the following conditions: (1) Significant difficulty persistently or recurrently in performing daily living tasks except with significant support or assistance from others; (2) Significant difficulty consistently in maintaining employment at a self-sustaining level or s carrying out the homemaker role; (3) Significant difficulty maintaining a safe living situation; 5. Have one or more of the following problems, which are indicators of a need for continuous high level of services: (1) High use of acute psychiatric hospitals (e.g., two or more admis-sions per year); (2) Intractable (i.e., persistent or very recurrent) severe major psychiatric symptoms; (3) Difficulty effectively utilizing traditional office-based outpatient services. The inclusion criteria of the family include: 1. Families living with and caring for one relative with a primary diagnosis of schizophrenia, according to DSM-IV, for more than three months; 2. The relative with schizophrenia is the only family member with mental illness, does not suffer comorbidity of other mental illness; 3. Those are aged 18 years or elder.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: The Exclusion Criteria for clients including: 1. refused to participate in this study; 2. Individuals with a primary diagnosis of chemical abuse, organic brain disorder, mental re-tardation, or severe head trauma, or personality disorder.
