Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients had a diagnosis of primary symptomatic knee OA according to the criteria of the American College of Rheumatology. Patients included were >=45 years old and had knee pain for the previous 3 months. They had Kellgren and Lawrence grade II or III OA.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: We excluded patients with a history of spinal stenosis, evidence of neurologic disease by history or physical examination, secondary causes of arthritis (inflammatory or metabolic) or had a surgical intervention or intraarticular injection in the affected knee in the previous 6 months or any contraindication to MRI or radiography.
