Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Type 2 diabetic patients (fasting blood glucose (FBG) of at least 7.0 mmol/L or postprandial blood glucose of at least 11.1 mmol/L) with diabetic retinopathy, diabetes duration more than 10 years.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria were: diabetes duration less than 10 years, endocrine disease other than diabetes-related, severe hypertension (BP >180/110 mmHg), recent use of anti-inflammatory drugs, hepatitis, and rheumatological or neoplastic diseases.
