Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Inclusion criteria refer to: 1. patients who are medically stable as determined by the cardiologist; 2. patients who are diagnosed with angina pectoris or myocardial infarction for at least three months; 3. patients who are 18 years old or above; 4. patients who are able to communicate, read and write in Chinese; 5. patients who are living in Xiamen City, Fujian Province and can be contacted by telephone.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria are: 1. patients who have participated in any cardiac rehabilitation programme before; 2. patients who have cognitive impairment or diagnosed with any psychiatric illnesses such as psychosis and dementia; 3. patients whose score of the Hospital Depression Subscale (HADS-D) are equal to or higher than 11; 4. patients who have unstable angina; 5. patients who have received PTCA or CABG treatment; 6. patients who have uncontrolled symptomatic heart failure (e.g., NYHA III/IV), diabetes (e.g., resting blood glucose > 15mmol/L (400mg/dL)), atrial or ventricular arrhythmias (e.g., resting heart rate > 120bpm, atrial fibrillation, second or third-degree heart block); 7. patients who have resting SBP > 180 mmHg or resting DBP > 100 mmHg; 8. patients who have acute myocarditis or pericarditis that may be worsen by exercise; 9. patients who have had embolism during the previous three months; 10. patients who have acute noncardiac disorder that may affect exercise performance or be aggravated by exercise (e.g., infection, renal failure, thyrotoxicosis).
