Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Patients with preoperative diagnosis of symptomatic gallstones or gallbladder polyps planned for elective cholecystectomy at the Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, Memorial Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University were offered to participate in the trial.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: The exclusion criterias were: (1) a very high risk for general anesthesia (ASA grade >=III); (2) previous upper or lower abdominal surgery; (3) signs of acute cholecystitis or choledocolithiasis or acute pancreatitis; (4) suspected malignancy or pregnancy; (5) obesity (BMI >30kg/m2) and larger body trunk (Height > 185cm).
