Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Male or female patient aged 18-45 years were included in the study if they fulfilled the diagnostic criteria for schizophrenia of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fourth Edition; 2. Body mass index (BMI) between 18-30 kg/m2; 3. Not ever received any antipsychotic treatment or had stopped previous antipsychotic for at least 3 months.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Previous treatment with paliperidone or olanzapine, clozapine, or antidepressant within 1 month; 2. Currently treated with insulin or oral antidiabetic agents, patients with a known diagnosis of diabetes or hyperlipidemia; 3. Current substance abuse; 4. Medical condition that may affect glucose/lipid metabolism; 5. Pregnant female patients.
