Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: patients aged between 18 and 68 years, an echocardiographic left ventricular ejection fraction(LVEF) value>=50%. All patiets with histologically confirmed breast cancer, previously untreated. Patients were all candidates to be treated with an epirubicin -based chemotherapy regimen (maximal cumulative dose of 400+/-40 mg/m2) according to the international standardized protocols for breast cancer.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients were not eligible if they had a history of coronary heard disease, hypertension, or diabetes mellitus and/or had been previously treated with chest irradiation.
