norepinephrine group (NEG) and liberal fluid admin:intraoperative continuous norepinephrine infusion
liberal fluid administration group (LFG):several 100 mL bolus of Voluven were infused to adjust low blood pressure over 5 minutes during operation

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 144 consecutive patients American Society of Anaesthesiologists (ASA) physical status I-II, aged 18-80 yr, scheduled for elective pulmonary lobectomy, were enrolled in this study.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria were as follows: age >80 yr, body mass index>30, insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, congestive heart failure, significant hepatic (liver enzymes >50% upper limit of normal value) or renal (plasma Cr >50% upper limit of normal value) dysfunction, anticoagulant treatment, chronic opioid use, morphine intolerance, contraindication to epidural catheter insertion, intraoperative bleeding amount > 400 mL, difficulties of lung exclusion, and complete pneumonectomy.
