Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: Had been diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Exclusion criteria included the presence of: fever, active tuberculosis, worsening of respiratory symptoms, primary diagnosis of asthma or obvious bronchiectasis, cystic fibrosis, interstitial lung disease, previous lung volume reduction surgery, lung transplantation, pneumonectomy, uncontrolled or serious conditions that could potentially affect the spirometry test, and expected survival over 6 months.
