Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: 1. age 17–22 years; 2. living in Xi'an city with a home residence below 900 m; 3. no exposure to high-altitude (above 1500 m) since July, 2009; 4. no tobacco or recreational drug use; 5. total score of National College Entrance Examination (NCEE) above 500 (maximum score is 750) and mathematics score above 90 (maximum score is 150); 6. taking no medications such as methazolamide that might affect the study; 7. no chronic or genetic diseases; 8. willing to participate in the study and take the medicine provided; 9. no history of allergy to sulfonamides.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: 1. obstructive lung disease; 2. heart disease; 3. liver or kidney dysfunction; 4. cerebrovascular disease; 5. obesity.
