Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) meeting the classification criteria of the International Headache Society for the diagnosis of migraine without aura; (2) having left side headache; (3) having one or more migraine attacks per month during the last three months; (4) reaching 2 to 8 in visual analogue scale (VAS) scores when recruiting and before scanning; (5) being less than 24 hours from headache attack to beginning to scan; (6) being aged 20 to 45; (7) being negative in neural system examination and normal skull CT or MRI; (8) having not taken any medicine for migraine within 24 hours since the onset of the acute attack; (9) being capable of giving writing informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) having headache caused by organic disorders, such as subarachnoid hemorrhage,cerebral hemorrhage, cerebral embolism, cerebral thrombosis, vascular malformation,hypertension, or arteriosclerosis; (2) having the presence of psychosis, bleeding disorders or allergies that may preclude the safe use of acupuncture; (3) having the presence of concurrent autoimmune or inflammatory that results in pain; (4) having concurrent participation in other studies; (5) being pregnant or nursing mothers; (6) having vasoactive agent medicine in last two weeks; (7) having current major anxiety and/or depression; (8) having contraindications to PET-CT or electroacupuncture.
