Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The inclusion criteria include age between 10 and 20 years, satisfactory general health and expectation to receive treatment with fixed appliances for at least 6 months.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: Patients who meet following criteria would be excluded: (1) Periodontal probing depth > 3mm; (2) history of long-term use of antibiotics; (3) with active caries; (4) enamel hypoplasia, dental fluorosis or tetracycline stained teeth.
