Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: (1) Older than 18 years; (2) Confirmed diagnosis of hepatic cirrhosis; (3) Endoscopic evidence of esophageal variceal bleeding; (4) Agreed to participate in the trial, and assigned informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: (1) Younger than 18 years or older than 75 years; (2) Pregnant and breeding women; (3) Previous episode(s) of chronic recurrent hepatic encephalopathy; (4) Severe disorders of other vital organs, such as heart, lung, kidney; (5) severe cogulation difficiency; (6) sepsis and systemic bacterial infection; (7) refusal to participate in the trial.
