Inclusion criteria
Inclusion criteria: Patients were eligible for the study if they had previously untreated cancer of the esophagus, including tumors of the upper, middle, or lower third of the esophagus, which was judged resectable.
Exclusion criteria
Exclusion criteria: Patients who had other previous or concomitant malignant disease, Previous gastric or esophageal surgery, neoadjuvent chemotherapy or radiation therapy, advanced tumor stage (T4 disease), advanced lymph node involvement or distant metastasis (M1 lymph or M1 disease), poor pulmonary reserve (forced expiratory volume <50% of normal) were excluded from this study.
