Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: The paticipants should be in good general health; smoking or tea drinking habits (we defined tobacco consumed>=20/per day as smoking habit, and tea drinking instead of usual water intake as tea drinking habit); a baseline total stain score>=2.0 as measured by the Lobene Stain index; at least 10 natural teeth in the maxillary and mandibular anterior region.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: dental professionals or dental students; any evidence of neglected dental health (i.e. severe periodontal disease or rampant caries), any medical condition or history requiring prophylactic antibiotic coverage prior to dental treatment; any systemic condition that might influence or preclude subject participation in the study
