Conditions

Atrial Fibrillation (AF)

Interventions

Group A:CARTO or NavX used for left atrial geometry construction. Pulmonary vein encirclement and electrical isolation with additional roof and isthmus ablation lines. Cardioversion is used to restore
Group B:Ensite array be used for anatomical navigation and activation mapping. Incremental stimulation used to induce AF if it is not present. Stepwise linear ablation guiding by non contact mapping a

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Paroxysmal atrial fibrillation: Symptomatic AF refractory or intolerant to at least 2 antiarrhythmic medication; 2. Persistent atrial fibrillation: AF history >6 months or AF recurrent within 1 week after effective pharmacologic or electrical cardio version.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Contraindication to amiodarone therapy or anticoagulation with warfarin; 2. Left atrial diameter >55 mm; 3. Left ventricular ejection fraction <35 percent; 4. Presence of left atrial thrombus on transesophageal echocardiography or CT or MRI; 5. Structural heart disease: Unstable angina, acute or prior myocardial infarction, uncontrolled systemic hypertension, nonischemic cardiomyopathy, uncorrected valvular disease or presence of a mechanical prosthetic valve; 6. History of a cerebrovascular accident; 7. AF secondary to transient or correctable abnormality (hyperthyroidism, alcoholism and drug intoxication etc); 8. Prior attempt at catheter or surgical ablation for atrial fibrillation.
