Chronic neck pain

Interventions

Control Group:Superficial needle pricking on non-standard points, which are 1 cm laterally from the standard points with local infrared therapy for 20 minutes
Intervention Group:Standard acupuncture on the following points: DU14, SI15 (both sides) and Ex-HN15 (both sides), with local infrared therapy for 20 minutes

Inclusion criteria

Inclusion criteria: 1. Male or female, aging 18 to 45; 2. Frequently attacked by neck pain or neck stiffness, equal or more than once per month and lasting equal or more than 6 months, accompanied with or without positive result of physical examination on musculoskeletal system (including restriction of motion, or local tender point); 3. VAS score between 3 to 7; 4. not receiving any acupuncture therapy because of neck pain during the latest 6 months; 5. Willing to sign an informed consent.

Exclusion criteria

Exclusion criteria: 1. Having received acupuncture for neck pain during the latest 6 months; 2. unwilling to comply with the therapeutic protocol of the study; 3. traumatic history of neck or thoracic vertebrae T1-T6, previous cervical fracture or operation, neurologic impairment (e.g. myasthenia, abnormal indication of spinal nerve reflection), congenital malformation of cervical vertebrae, systematic disease of bone and joint ( need to be identified by X-ray check); 4. acupuncture phobia; 5. pregnant or lactation woman; 6. severe diseases or medical condition of cardiac, cerebral or pulmonary system.
